Around the turn of the 20th Century, the idea of homecoming evolved on college campuses as a time for alumni to return to school to celebrate with current students, usually around a sporting event. The events surrounding this annual tradition may have started with returning to a football game to show school spirit, but have now blossomed into events such as homecoming dances, Pep Rallies, parades, Alumni Reunions and school spirit days.
